To recap

…Human Nature, The Family of Blood, Blink, Utopia, The Sound of Drums.

Considering the Dalek-based mediocrity of the first half of series 3 (and whilst The Shakespeare Code appears to be popular, I wasn’t a fan of that, either), does this count as the best series turnaround ever?

Please don’t let Last of the Time Lords balls it up, that’s all I ask.

Three to go

Foundation year results are in, and I nailed it. For the few that might care:

Biology – 89%
Chemistry – 80%
I.T. – 100%
Maths and Stats – 91%
Med Lab Science – 73%
Medicine and Drugs – 97%
Study Skills – 86%

Overall Weighted Average – 88%

The pressure is officially off, and I can get to work becoming Queen of Summertime. First step – put into motion every and any idea for summer fun formulated whilst under the influence, such as Beejfest, the BBQ where everyone has to brew their own beer. Bring on the blindness.

An email received at work today:

“I went to a CIMA evening last night and there was a free prize draw for a Nintendo Wii, I won it !!!!!!! Anna tells me that you have one? Can it be used as a DVD player?”

Pfft.

One of life’s mysteries

Posted in Religion at 11:34 am by Ben

Why the hell do I still read the Guardian? For fuck’s sake, Hobson had a shocking snipe at Hitchens – “as for the evil of ’sexual repression’, well, maybe some day all men will be as liberated as Hitch, who left his first wife while she was pregnant” – cut by an editor, and he pops up in the comments to announce the censorship! He’s actually proud of the gag and wants to make sure we can all share the hilarity. The rest of the article is a spin on the usual Einsteinian God crap, with comments like “there is surely something religious in the communal ecstasy of a rave, or a pop concert, or a play, or a sporting event, or a political rally“, wrapped up with the standard “it’s more complex than you think, idiots” assertion.

And don’t get me started on that bilge by Rahman. If religious belief is an evolutionary phenomenon, then Richard Dawkins doesn’t stand a chance of beating it, he says. Evolution giveth and taketh away he says, no doubt thinking he’s ever so clever. Rahman, mate, The Extended Phenotype was published in 1982 and has a great chapter on the myth of genetic determinism. And Unweaving The Rainbow might help you with the “dismal world” painted by atheists (sorry, antitheists – makes us sound more aggressive).

On paranoia

In Waterstones the other day I checked the paperback version of The God Delusion to make sure I was still in it. That is surely not healthy. And why yes, this is an entirely gratuitous mention of my greatest claim to fame thus far* – personally I’m quite proud I’ve resisted the urge to write “‘an eloquent blogger’ – Richard Dawkins.” in my tagline.

*eclipsing the time we got our picture took with Ken Barlow at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Why are you big?

This sums up Mario Strikers Charged Football perfectly. Utterly bonkers game that induced the time-honoured “Which one am I again?” outburst from Anna. The only line I cherish more than that is my brother’s tendency to announce “This game’s crap” when he’s losing.

Anyway. Exams are done. You’d think I’d have all sorts of wonderful blogging material lined up. You’d be wrong.
